The Lochinver Circuit

Starting at Ledmore Junction (lay-by parking), this route is best done twice, once clockwise and once anti-clockwise (but not on the same day) as the views are magnificent but different in each direction. Distance - about 48 miles. Allow 5 hours plus stops, photographs and tea at Achins Bookshop/Cafe, Inverkirkaig.

 Leave Ledmore Junction (lay-by) and head North to Inchnadamph.
At the end of Loch Assynt, turn Left to follow the River Inver along the old road to avoid a climb on the new road
Rejoin the main road to Lochinver, where refreshments may be found.
Continue through Lochinver and turn left uphill past the school with a spectacular view of Suilven
Over a sharp hill and descend to the sea again, follow the coast until the road turns inland again to reach Inverkirkaig
 Turn Left uphill before the bridge to reach Achins Bookshop/Cafe
 Return to main road and Left over bridge, steeply uphill.
Descend to beautiful Enard Bay before striking deep inland
 Fine views of Cul More and Cul Beag on ascent
 Descend to fish farm at Inverpolly bay
Climb with superb views of Stack Polly before descent to the Achiltibuie road
Turn Left and follow road past Loch Lurgain beneath Stack Polly
Turn Left at Drumrunie junction to commence climb up to Knockan Rock (geological and historical visitor centre)
Decend steep hill to Elphin (tearoom) and on to Ledmore junction
